Women in Islam are viewed as hormonal and emotionally-unbalanced, resulting in them being unreliable as witnesses or to hold roles of responsibility in society
its sad to see some females defending such an evil religion like Islam :( :(

great post, texan mashaAllah!

saudi, arent you now judging the religion by it's believers? islam is not an evil religion. if your experience of it is not good, it could be because a lot of cultural things are mixed with islam. find out what the religion really is, not what people make it inshaAllah. you might get surprised.

Asalamu aliakum,

MashaAllah Texan <3 Love it.

Tiina, well said.

Godless Saudi, I'm very sorry to read what you have to say. It's such a common misconception :( Too bad, not many of us take the time to read/research more on the matter. For one thing, women, in Islam, can be witnesses. In some cases, in fact, it is ONLY a woman's testimonial that is accepted- in women's fiqh, etc. Also, if a woman sees a crime, she can testify just like a man. (Let's say, the crime is zina- 4 women can be witnesses just as 4 men). The ayaat that discuss the 'witness' thing that you are probably talking about have to do with 'dayn', right or debt. And guess what? A woman can still be a witness- just 2 are needed. If you watch Dr. Tariq Suwaidan and Dr.3sam they have both discussed this issue (using hadiths, Qur'an and tafseer) and have explained that the reason why 2 women were asked to be witnesses rather than one is because at the time, most women didn't have any dealings with money-- they didn't know much about it. In fact, they explained that (I’m pretty sure it was Shaikh Ibn Tayima) said that today, one woman’s testimonial would be accepted.

Also, what do you mean a 'responsible' role in society? You want to tell me that a mother is not a responsible role in society? You want me to believe that to be 'responsible' and to contribute to society you can only be a president? There is no religion that esteems women for being ‘mothers’ like Islam does. No religion that recognizes the ‘responsibility’ of a mother like Islam does. Where is jannah? It’s at your parent’s feet.

What religion allows a mother to abort her child, if her life is at stake? Islam does. IT recognizes women as full individuals, worthy of life, worthy of dignity and of God’s love.

I for one, will continue to defend Islam, again and again and again:)

He (God) it is who did create you from a single soul and therefrom did create his mate, that he might dwell with her (in love)...(Qur'an 7:189)

Mashallah TexaninUAE :):):), this is excellent. Thank you
Now regarding the comments of Godless Saudi. I am sorry as I feel that you must be very lonely in a world without. Nevertheless:
before you accuse a Religion or someone you must be well versed with those.
If you want to know about Islam please read the Holy Scriptures and do not look at the behaviour of some of the followers of the Religion.
In the Pre Islamic times , they used to bury the female infants. Islam prohibited this practice and gave the women rights;
Right to live, marry choosing her spouse, right to inherit, right to property, right to work and so on.
Regarding the witness matter there is no better person to answer but Dr Zakir Naik though all the sister's previous answers are very comprehensive.

Dr Zakir Naik says:
Why are two witnesses who are women, equivalent to only one witness who is a man?

EQUALITY OF WITNESSES

It is not true that two female witnesses are always considered as equal to only one male witness. It is true only in certain cases. There are about five verses in the Qur’an that mention witnesses, without specifying male or female. There is only one verse in the Qur’an, that says two female witnesses are equal to one male witness. This verse is Surah Baqarah, chapter 2 verse 282. This is the longest verse in the Qur’an and deals with financial transactions. It says:

"Oh! ye who believe!
When ye deal with each other,
in transactions involving future obligation
in a fixed period of time
reduce them to writing and get two witnesses
out of your own men and if there are not two men,
then a man and two women, such as ye choose,
for witnesses so that if one of them errs
the other can remind her."
[Al-Qur’an 2:282]

This verse of the Qur’an deals only with financial transactions. In such cases, it is advised to make an agreement in writing between the parties and take two witnesses, preferably both of which should be men only. In case you cannot find two men, then one man and two women would suffice.

For instance, suppose a person wants to undergo an operation for a particular ailment. To confirm the treatment, he would prefer taking references from two qualified surgeons. In case he is unable to find two surgeons, his second option would be one surgeon and two general practitioners who are plain MBBS doctors.

Similarly in financial transactions, two men are preferred. Islam expects men to be the breadwinners of their families. Since financial responsibility is shouldered by men, they are expected to be well versed in financial transactions as compared to women. As a second option, the witness can be one man and two women, so that if one of the women errs the other can remind her. The Arabic word used in the Qur’an is ‘Tazil’ which means ‘confused’ or ‘to err’. Many have wrongly translated this word as ‘to forget’. Thus financial transactions constitute the only case in which two female witnesses are equal to one male witness.

There are about five verses in the Qur’an which speak about witnesses without specifying man or woman.

While making a will of inheritance, two just persons are required as witnesses. In Surah Maidah chapter 5 verse 106, the Glorious Qur’an says:

"Oh you who believe!
When death approaches any of you,
(take) witnesses among yourself when making bequests."
[Al-Qur’an 5:106]

two just persons of your own (brotherhood)
or other from outside if you are journeying
through the earth and the chance of death befalls you."
[Al-Qur’an 65:2]

Two persons endued with justice in case of talaq.

"Four witnesses are required
in case of charge against chaste women,
[Al-Qur’an 24:4]

The seeming inequality of male and female witnesses in financial transactions is not due to any inequality of the sexes in Islam. It is only due to the different natures and roles of men and women in society as envisaged by Islam.

Godless Saudi
If you are an atheist, then it is your own decision. I won't judge you for you are your own person. However, it is not you place to judge others. It is not your place to talk that way about our sensational religion, Islam. If you do not believe in the existence of God, then how come you're playing God and saying what's evil and what's not?

Islam is more than a religion. It is a relationship of love and devotion. Being a Muslim woman does not mean I am with no self worth, or a mind of my own. Having faith in God gives you comfort. I will not judge you, but I will say this, you do not understand religion as an aspect. Perhaps you hate it because it is thrown at you with such force in Saudi, which personally I think is wrong. The points that you have mentioned are mere facts. Women tend to be more emotional than men. WOMEN are breaking glass ceilings, my dear. Muslim women are having voices and appreciation in parliaments.

May you find the light you're obviously searching for.

Assalamu allikum,

Thanks a lot Texan for posting it again and like others said, Its always great to read about our wonderful religion Islam.

As for Saudi, I feel sorry for her poor knowledge.I just want to ask her that did she read about Islam before making all these opinions/comments? The thing is we Muslims knows about them and their beliefs but they don't know anything about Islam but can very easily and confidently say things which are always wrong.
To know the truth and the TRUE religion you need to read Quran.
I really wish to say more but english being not my first language I wont be able to help this Saudi person. I really hope you will be guided to the right path which is indeed Islam.
May Allah guide us ameeen.

Muslims believe in angels? I had no idea!

And could you clarify the meaning of the word "Jinn"? I'm thinking the stereotypical genie in a bottle...

Godless Saudi:

Women all over the world are viewed as emotionally unbalanced. Don't believe me? look at all those jokes on a womans PMS. think they come from nowhere? now those jokes couldnt have been made up because of the Islamic religion. If youre a woman im sure youve experienced PMS. That is a form of emotional unbalance.
Women in Islam were liberated, hold roles in society, who raises and makes a boy a man? Women
If you think islam is evil and what, the western way is the best then look at the free west. Do you see women prime ministers? In the UK elections do you see ONE woman on the forefront? Nope
In America could they accept a woman? Not yet
And the list goes on.
Maybe your society treat women like that because of CULTURE, dont blame it on religion.

There are roles for women in society just like there are for men

Alhumdulillah for Islam!
There is none worthy of worship but Allah and Muhammed peace and blessings be upon him is the final Messenger

What brilliant replies. Aww saudi, I thought you would follow me? LOL I can't say more than my sisters in Islam said. I think you live a very sad life. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to know theres a God. Just look around. Glory be to Allah. We are so blessed we are Muslims.

Only God can guide. We are simply his slaves.

Cheryl, sweetie. Yes, we do believe in Angels.

Let me try to explain.

Jinn were created from a smokeless flame of fire. The first recorded jinn to be disobedient is Iblis (the devil). Disbelieving, disobedient jinn and humans are known as shayateen (satans).

Even the Jinns worship God. Look at this verse in our holy book (Quran)

The Noble Qur'an - Az-Zaariyaat 51:56
And I (Allâh) created not the jinns and humans except they should worship Me (Alone).

I totally love this post. I pray for everyone to be as enlightened as you are. And I truly thank Allah subhano wa ta'ala who blessed you with Islam :)...
