Just because...

mood: Happy the weekend is here. :))))
craving: spending time with family.  It's Thursday, the weekend.

Salam Alikom (Peace be with you)  to all my Muslim readers and Hello to all my non-Muslim readers. It's the beginning of the weekend. YAY! I pray that all of y'all have a blessed weekend.

Just because I am a Muslim woman, doesn't mean I don't have feelings.
Just because I am married to an Arab man, doesn't mean I am oppressed.
Just because I am Muslim, doesn't mean I gave up my culture.
Just because I pray to Allah, doesn't mean I pray to a different God than the Jews or Christians.
Just because I am Muslim, doesn't mean I am a terrorist.

Final whisperThis hadeeth was narrated by Muslim (145) from Abu Hurayrah who said: The Messenger of Allah (God) (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Islam began as something strange and will revert to being strange as it began, so give glad tidings to the strangers.”

Gotta sweet tooth?

mood: (:
craving: My daughter's lemon cakes (she made today)

Salam Alikom (Peace be with you)  to all my Muslim readers and Hello to all my non-Muslim readers.... I hope y'all had a GREAT weekend, it's the start of y'all's week today. Now Monday's to me aren't hated like they were when I lived back in the west. Actually, I don't hate any day anymore since I got married and don't work. LOL

Today was a cleaning day, again. I got up, checked my email, checked my forum, ate and then started to clean. I had some "me" time, since my little boy was still sleeping. He woke up a little while later and I washed him up and fed him some breakfast (he didn't eat much). Soon after that I had to start cooking lunch- Chicken with rice, Mexican style. Fed my little boy again, because he was a hungry monster. LOL

My daughter got home from school and she ate and after that she made her amazing little bitty lemon cakes. We like to send food to our family members, so the little cakes will be going out tonight. They look a little strange, but are truly good. She said they overflowed haha. Her rainbow cakes are so good and they look really nice.

I still haven't given my tiny little itty bitty gift to my dearest Mother in law. I always think of her when I go out. I love buying for her and my sister in laws. They're so special to me. Look what I got her. She loves this kinda popcorn, so I had to throw in a box of Orville Redenbacher. LOL Look how precious these  tea cups are. The saucers are at the bottom, so you can't see them. I love them. She'll be getting some of my daughter's delicious lemon cakes tonight and some of these nice little bitty tea cups, and her popcorn for her late night munchies, while she watches her favorite soaps.

My daughter's little rainbow cakes. They rave about these. We use betty crocker.

They look like paints. We have so much fun making these together.

My daughter's yummy lemon cakes..

"There is no happiness in having or in getting, but only in giving"

This is a TRULY AMAZING recipe. It's so good, your family and guest will rave about it. I promise. I haven't made it here in UAE, yet. I just ran across the recipe on my forum today. I truly need to make it this Jummah (Friday) Insha'a'Allah (God's willing).

I remember the last time I made it. We were leaving Germany and we were invited to one of my husband's friends home. I made cake and everyone just loved it.  It takes a lot of preparation time, but so worth it. My husband said, even the men we're asking what it was, so they can give the recipe to their mom's when they would come back to UAE (they were single guys).

Carrot Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting

2 cups of flour
2 teaspoons of baking powder
1 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda
1 teaspoon of salt
2 teaspoons of cinnamon
2 cups of sugar
1 1/2 cup of oil
4 eggs
2 cups of raw carrots, grated
8 3/4 ounces of crushed pineapple, drained
1/2 cup of nuts <<< we didn't do the nuts wink3.gif
1 cup of margarine We use butter always... grin.gif
8 ounces of cream cheese, softened
1 pound of confectioners sugar
1 teaspoon of vanilla

Preheat oven to 350ºF. Mix together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt and cinnamon. Add sugar, oil and eggs. Mix well. Stir in carrots, pineapple, nuts and turn into a 13 x 9 inch pan. Bake 35 to 50 minutes or until it springs back when touched lightly. Let cool. Gradually add sugar. Add vanilla. Spread on a completely cooled cake.

I got the recipe here

Bonus pic of the day!!!! YIPPIE!!!! My husband finally hung the clock I purchased over 2 months ago. The houses here are very different than the homes in the States. We have cement walls, in the states the walls are sheet rock and I can easily hang anything. We have to drill here. Not fun. So, I had to wait and wait and wait for my hubby to do it. Finally!!! Tonight, it took him about 10 minutes!!!!

Isn't it nice? ;)

Have a nice day/evening, everyone!

Final whisper:
There comes a time in life
when you have to let go of

all the pointless drama

& the people who create it

and surround yourself with

people who make you laugh

so hard that you forget

the bad and focus solely

on the good. After all,

  life's too short to be
anything but happy.

Saturday ramblings

mood: content
craving: some Mexican candy ( Tamarindo )

Salam Alikom (Peace be with you)  to all my Muslim readers and Hello to all my non-muslim readers....I pray everyone had a beautiful weekend. The weekend has just ended for us.. The weekend isn't over for y'all in the west. One more extra day. Relax and spend some quality time with family and friends.

There's this special feeling while doing everything that a stay at home mom should do.  Today was a busy day for me. We cleaned our three big fish tanks and basically spring cleaned. I got all my older clothes I don't wear anymore together and sent them to charity. What a great feeling.

Alhamdulilah (Thank you God)

All my friends think I am nuts, but I love, love, love cleaning. I like the way it makes me feel after wards. I don't need no maid to do what I should be doing. I love cooking for my family and love keeping our home nice, cozy and clean. I love that our daughter comes home from school and there's a nice hot meal for her to eat, and it was ME who cooked the meal, not a cook.  Nothing like mama's homemade food.  I like to do things "my way" and don't feel it's necessary to have another woman live inside my humble home and clean the mess we make. It's nice every once in a while getting someone to come clean our outside windows and help me with the bigger stuff. But,  the more that I see the trouble some live in  maids have brought family and friends,  I say, "No thanks." One of my best friends, Om Abdullah, has ladies come clean her home a couple times a week. I wouldn't mind, because it's the bigger things. Not the things we clean everyday. They don't live in her home and she doesn't like that either. So, her and I are hand in hand with that. This is specifically for, non-working mom's.

Now, here's something else I wanted to talk about.

You brought them into this world and YOU should be the one to raise them and it's your responsibility to feed, change and nurture them. I can honestly understand if you don't have helping husband, seriously.  But, since I've never been in this situation, I can't judge.  But, me,  I can't imagine someone other than my family members/close friends, changing my son.  No way.  Not the maids responsibility.  How do you really know this person? She could have some deep problems and you would only know when something went wrong. The stories come flowing in when I am usually at my in laws house and by another reliable source. I've gasped at each and every one of the sick stories. I guess I'll never understand. *shrugs shoulders* To each his own.

About having a maid. For me it's a violation of my privacy. Letting someone else clean our bedroom? Nope, it will never happen. For me the bedroom is a private place and I can't think of someone even cleaning our mess. Just being around listening to my conversations with my husband. Even if she wouldn't be in the same room with us. She's in the same house. Basically, a stranger.

Usually this is what I hear. She's really good the first 6 months. Then she starts getting a attitude. She starts to feel comfy in the home and then other things can happen. I just wouldn't want the risk. I am totally not judging people having maids. Some people really need the help... and even if they don't need the help, it's the norm here. But, everyone knows my views on me getting a maid. Maybe someday. I doubt it. If it hasn't happened now, I don't think it would happen in the future. God only knows. You know us women, we change our minds at a drop of a pin. When I make up my mind, it usually sticks. I am pretty hard headed.

To those of you who have nannies. Be careful. For those of you who are thinking of getting nannies.. Think really hard.

are your kids not precious?

Final whisper: Don't worry about the people in your past, there's a reason they didn't make it to your future.

Because life is beautiful.
