MOM! Why do you say "bum" now, instead of BUTT?

Just sitting here relaxing on a Saturday afternoon. I didn't feel like cooking lunch, so hubby is off getting us Domino's! YAY for pizza! I woke up at 8am to the sound of my son crying in his crib, so I took him into my bedroom and he fell asleep... again. I took a nice hot shower and had some quality time to myself. I love "me" time. Now the whole household is up and there is noise everywhere.

To get to the topic of this entry... My son had a dirty diaper (nappy, for you Brits) and I asked my daughter to change him. I told her he went caca and to wash his bum. She started laughing and said, "MOM, you became British?!??!?!"
I said,"why?". She said, "You said 'bum' instead of 'butt'." I think it's because we lived in Europe and here (where they teach British English) for so long, we are losing a lot of our Americanization of the English language.

I find that bum sounds better than butt! Don't y'all? Don't get me wrong, I don't use a lot of British terms. A lot of my British friends and I will always disagree with chips being fries and potato chips being crisps... Us American chicas will always have our stance on what we call food.

Chips are potatoes chips, not crisps
French fries are NOT chips...

I still think "American" English is the easiest. LOL and the most clear. *sticks tongue out at Saimah*

Now, yall got me on the bum... It sounds nicer.. But, I still use BUTT. LOL

Yep bum sounds better then butt!!

Oh and hang on...How can the oh so americanised english be right and the British English be incorrect?

So excuse me please...

Chips are chips (french fries if they are thin cut) and crisps are crisps (because they are crispy)...how can your version be correct? No... the british way is the right way! You speak english don't you? from England? You don't speak amercian do you? No you dont, so you get my point! ;-)

LOL...do you understand now?

Love you, your little sis Saimah (ok, so I'm not so little anymore)...hugs to you and your gorgeous family MashaAllah on this glorious Saturady afternoon in the uae...

Hah! U know what! Here in India, we're taught British English..but not that rigidly and the whole American influence also gets into our language quite effortlessly...so actually, I don't know which one is American and which is British! hehe kinda messy ha!
So i say bum as frequently as i say butt! And potato chips, french fries all becomes synonymous! haha..but what the hell is crisps! I nevr use that!
xoxo
Splendid!

My daughter and I are sitting here, talking and reading. When we saw your comment "haha..but what the hell is crisps! I nevr use that!" <-- we bust out LAUGHING!!! I guess you could say we're proud Americans and of course we love OUR English. CRISPS isn't in our vocabulary in the US.

Girl I will tell you a hundred times it's chips and chips lol, french fries are those things they sell in mcdonalds that pass as food.

And bum is much nicer, but I also like to say butt, BUT here I think the prevalent word is always going to be arse, we're a tad ummmm crass? But the other 2 are used to lol.

Anywho oh I was gonna say my SIL in Singapore (another country like India where they mix British and American English, and I confuse the friends and family by talking Australian english), she says CACA to lol, soooo friggin cute.

Oh and if you're wondering on the name, um blame kasey she keeps calling my riddy giddy and it's sinking in! lol.

Love ya chica *mwah*

ps. british english came first, I think it makes it right, but aussie english is more fun!
